Detox Center Los Angeles

Our care

Our Los Angeles Detox specializes in providing the proper balance between minimizing risk, reducing fear, anxiety and depression, and immediately helps clients end the cycle of substance abuse and the consequences that accompany addiction. Our Medical Director will establish a plan that uses a variety of treatment protocols, brain science, neurophysiology and medications to provide the best course of treatment with the best possible outcomes. The doctors and nursing teams will review your medical history, previous adverse reactions to medication and any allergies you may have to prevent complications.

What Is the Drug and Alcohol Detox Process Like?

The drug and alcohol detox process can vary based on individual needs and the substances of abuse, but typically involves the following three steps:

  • Evaluation: A full assessment of a person’s past and current medical and psychological conditions and social history. This step also involves testing a person for the presence of addictive substances. This information is used to determine the appropriate level of care that the individual will need.

  • Stabilization: This involves managing acute intoxication and alcohol or drug withdrawal in a safe and supervised detox setting. Medication Assisted Treatment or MAT during this phase will generally alleviate any physical withdrawal symptoms quickly. Treatment professionals will also help you understand what to expect during your detox process and other treatments during this stage.

  • Preparation for further treatment: Your treatment team will support and encourage continued treatment to support successful long term recovery outcomes.

There are many factors that can affect the length of withdrawal. These can include:

  • Substance of abuse

  • Duration of use

  • Route of administration (snorting, smoking, injecting etc.)

  • The severity of the addiction

  • Family history of addiction

  • Level of willingness to change

  • Current level of family/social support

  • Presence of co-occurring medical or psychiatric conditions

  • Risk of developing severe withdrawal symptoms

  • History of previous relapses

  • History of previous withdrawals

Alcohol Detox

We know that when alcohol detox is initiated and managed by doctors and nurses there are much fewer incidents of medical emergencies and clients are considerably more comfortable. We also know that when conducted improperly, alone at home or by someone who is not trained, there can be life threatening withdrawal symptoms like seizure, tremor, or death. Alcohol withdrawal symptoms include nausea, depression, anxiety, disorientation, and extreme fatigue. The Encino Detox Center provides the most effective, safe, and comfortable detox available.

Drug Detox

Substance use disorders leads to physiological and often psychological dependence when a person needs more of a substance to achieve a desired result.  Over time, addiction takes hold and changes into an exhausting, seemingly never ending personal ‘hell’. Depriving the brain of what it biologically and psychologically craves leads to symptoms such as muscle and body pain, confusion, vomiting, insomnia, intense cravings, sweating, depression, cold flashes, intense fear, panic, and anxiety.

Do I need Detox?

There are general guidelines which have been established by the medical profession to provide a level of care needed to safely manage the detoxification process.

  • The detoxification process (detox) is a biological, physiological, psychological and physical process that occurs when the mind and body are cleansed of toxins. Detoxification is a process that occurs mainly through the liver as a person’s system naturally eliminates a number of waste products, foreign substances, and other materials.

  • Withdrawal is one aspect of physical dependence that occurs when a person has chronically used some drug and the mind and body has adjusted to having a specific level of the drug in the system, and the system stabilizes itself to function in the presence of the drug.

  • The normal detoxification process removes the drug from the system. If the individual does not continue the drug or alcohol consumption, their system is thrown out of balance. As a result, the person experiences a number of unpleasant physical and emotional consequences. If the person takes the drug again, the withdrawal symptoms will often extinguish very quickly. Treatment in a detox is the most effective and safest way to rid the body of toxins and remain sober without needing to use again.

  • The withdrawal management process refers to both medical and psychological interventions applied to individuals recovering from substance use disorders who experience withdrawal symptoms (for those who have developed physical and psychological dependence on a drug or drugs).

Detox Symptoms Management

A person who has been drinking or using drugs heavily for a prolonged period of time, who suddenly stops or greatly reduces the amount of their intake, may experience intense pain and discomfort, for a short period, during this phase of treatment.

Some common symptoms of detox we see at The Encino Detox Center include:

Medical Focus

Encino Detox Center has Board Certified Addictionologist MD’s and full-time nurses on staff to oversee and supervise a safe detoxification. The Encino Detox Center understands that effective addiction treatment cannot be unrehearsed and are designed to take full advantage of neuroplasticity – our brain’s ability to adjust and heal itself by forming new neural connections to adapt and adjust to biological change, new situations, new experiences, and new relationships and environments.

Our medical focus is necessary because the detox process is not the same for all substances and all people.  Our clients have come to know and have faith in the experienced professionals who will care for them for 24 hours a day.

Clinical Focus

We strongly believe that relationships are the antidote, to everything.

The Encino Detox Center understands that although addiction and addictive behaviors may temporarily alleviate unwanted thoughts and or feelings, addiction and addictive behavior happens in the absence of healthy relationships. Over time, addiction interferes with creativity, intimacy, educational and occupational successes, and a person’s overall health and wellness. Encino Detox Center respectfully sees addiction as a chronic relapsing disorder characterized by compulsive drug seeking, continued use despite harmful consequences, and long-lasting changes in the brain.  It is considered both a complex brain disorder and a mental illness. Addiction is first identified by men and women as a helper to one’s emotional and physical stability. The long-term goal is to create a master list of creative and relationally based alternatives that the person struggling with addiction can utilize when the urge to use arises. It is important to note that young adults do stop using and do eventually feel better – they are all people in need of consistent, relationship-oriented support, nurturance, and guidance. This program has as a foundational goal the desire to help reintroduce people to themselves, in a more loving way.

Together, the therapeutic relationship promotes health, creativity, stability and wellness. It is the relationship between patient, family, and therapist that helps to rebuild a connection with oneself and within the family. This program creates an opportunity to form relationships that are secure, safe, and honest. The Encino Detox Center is a place where verbal communication is encouraged and supported, where the person struggling with addiction builds healthy attachments. Encino Detox Center realizes that people who struggle with the effects of addiction and or mental health have often times endured many failed therapeutic interventions and/or repeated inpatient care. Our goal is to create a therapeutic partnership that creates lasting peace, safety, health and freedom. Encino Detox Center provides an opportunity to develop alternatives to the isolation, shame and loneliness: leading to more satisfying and intimate relationships with oneself and with others.
